Early hours of 2/01/2014 witnessed a stampede that calls back to mind the NIS saga, which led to the avoidable death of innocent job seeking youths (so sad), the center of events was at the Akin Deko Hall (main Auditorium Uniben), venue of the screening exercise of fresh 100 level students. The students forcefully pulled down a gate well fitted to the ground (power of unity), this was as a result of the frustration the young ones were put through, the rigor and stress (though this is always the case, negligence of future leaders by authorities). We want to condemn this act of inhumanity.
Casualties were recorded but no death was ascertained, but serious injuries and fainting. Though security operatives on campus responded approprately, though the incident could have been avoided, if the young ones were handled properly.
We expect a response from approprate authority (that is if they will) or maybe act as if nothing happened. As students and press were denied snapshot of events by security operatives.
This has gone to reiterate the needed overhauling and monitoring of the education sector.
