YET ANOTHER SHAME

With the release of the unified tertiary matriculation examination (UTME), a dismal performance was recorded by students ( as Obahiagbon would say "a monumental disgrace"). Jamb statistics says only a megre seventy four candidates scored above 250 in the exam.
Many reactions have continued to trail the dismal performance by candidates. In our normal manner of bringing divergence to trends and issues, we will try to see the causes and probably solutions;
In some quarters, blames are heaped on Jamb for poor outing, they say the impunity that is all around has gotten into Jamb. They have been corrupt which is a national plaque.
Some have blamed parents for the poor outing, as they have failed in giving their wards proper upbringing.
For us both parties are not far from the truth, but a key player have been exempted from taking their share in the game of blames. Today, how many students between 16 to 19 years are really interested in their books these days? With the advent of internet, social media and other distracting factors. Even they are distractions to themselves, as many have twarted ideaologies about life, we call it civilisation, a 16 years old is busy with dating, what a trend. With heart breaks on the rise, how many will have ample preparation time. This set of people have a very big role in the success of candidates in subsequent exams.
Don't get it twisted, the internet is a blessing depending on how you harness it.
We pray that candidates keep the main thing, the main thing in future exams.
