NATIONAL CONFAB: WHOSE CALL ARE THE DELEGATES OBEYING?

The second line of the first stanza of the Nigerian national anthem goes thus:"Nigeria call obey". Delegates in the national conference seem to have however forgotten that particular sentence as their interests, rather than
that of the nation has always occupied their minds. On Thursday, 3rd April, over half of the delegates abandoned proceedings to enable them travel to attend the wedding of the daughter of President Goodluck Jonathan coming up on Saturday, 5th April in Bayelsa state.
When the chairman of the conference, Justice Idris Kutigi called for contributions to the debate on ground, many of the delegate's seat were empty. Obviously, these delegates have failed to realize the immense importance of the on-going conference, thereby trivializing a state call for a mere wedding ceremony. If serious actions are not taken to nip this inept attitude being displayed by some delegates, it could jeopardize the main aim of the conference. Nigerians are patiently waiting for the outcome of the CONFAB, hoping it will turn the fortunes of the nation and its citizenry around. The delegates should please take this conference serious for the sake of posterity and map out a blue print for a better Nigeria.

  1. Everything right from the selection of delegates had been recycling of loyalists so no wonder this is happening.
