Nigeria is said to have copied her system of government: Democracy, from the United States of America. However, looking at the state of the nation in terms of politics, one can only wonder in confusion what went wrong in the process. Coincidentally, Nigeria speaks English as an official language just like the U.S.A; otherwise we might have been forced to say something went wrong during the translation process.

A federal high court sitting in Lagos has yesterday, 3rd April, ordered the federal government to pay the suspended governor of the central bank of Nigeria, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, N50 million as damages.

NATIONAL CONFAB: A BRILLIANT MOVE

With the national confab currently on going in Abuja, entering it's second week, the delegates seemed to have trimmed down their personal aides. When the conference commenced, most of the delegates had at least 4 to 5 aides to themselves. Most of these aides were obviously very irrelevant and jobless.

However, that did not deter their masters (the delegates) from asking the Federal government to also pay them allowances. Their request was bluntly refused by the confab chairman, Juctice Idris Kutigi, rtd. The chairman told them that the FG had only made provisions for the delegates themselves, their aides not inclusive. When the delegates realized that they would have to start feeding their so-called aides from their pockets, not to mention hotel accommodation and other expenses; they obviously used their tongue to count their teeth. The aides which made the national judicial institute, Abuja, the venue of the conference rowdy in the first week are presently nowhere to be found. The delegates are now said to be holding on to only the important aides such as their drivers. They now carry their files themselves, which before was too "heavy" for them to carry.

Just a question to ponder on: remember these delegates are a total of 492, and they have already been allocated fat bonuses acc ruing into 12 million Naira. Isn't that enough money to pay their aides from? This is obviously another case of misplaced priority and I dare to call their patriotism to serious questioning.

TWO SIDES TO A FACE

Sundays attempted jail break at the DSS headquarters is yet another blow to the face of the Jonathan led federal government.
The striking issues is the disparities in the reports flying around. A certain group reported that the suspects pounced on an officer of the service, with a toilet seat he had forcefully pulled off the ground and another say troubled erupted at the handing and taking over of duties by DSS detainees handlers at 6 am, as a handler opened the gate leading to the cell where detainees were kept.
Whatever the case may have been or which story is true is not relevant now, I see it all as "two sides to a face", no matter how pleasant or tailored the reports may be, the facts still remains there was an attempted jail break but on second thought, is the Headquarters of the DSS a prison?, as a spokesperson claimed they were convicted suspect for terrorism. They claim they did for sake of security (this says two things) 1. Our prisons are void of adequate security 2. The whole drama was staged.

How sure are Nigerians that there wasn't actually any escape, as trust for government over the years have taken a fall in geometric progression, as events unfold we can't help to cynical. That is why I have always maintained that the for a change to come in our political landscape, the citizens have got to be up and asking questions of their leaders or maybe rulers.
Though the last has not been heard of the matter, we have heard of Britain issuing warning to its citizens in Abuja on areas to avoid and to be vigilante.

THE NEW FACE OF BOKO HARAM.

The Islamic insurgency in the north eastern part of Nigeria is no longer news to us. Every day we hear or see in our various mass media how these men without conscience murder innocent Nigerians with little or no regard for human lives.
However, there seems to be a smoke that may soon result into a large fiery flame if not nipped in the bud. For some months now, there have been incessant killings and burning of villages in the middle belt; especially in Benue and Plateau states. It's tentacles has even spread into Kaduna state. A couple of days ago, these assailants who are currently being labeled as "Fulani cattle herdsmen" burnt and sacked several villages in Benue state close to makurdi, the state capital. About a week ago, some villages in the southern part of Kaduna was also attacked. In these attacks, over a 100 lives were lost with villages disappearing into oblivion. The so called "Fulani cattle herdsmen" are well armed like their boko haram counterparts brandishing AK-47 rifles and IEDs. It may even surprise you to know that they had the effrontery to attack the Governor of Benue's convoy while he was inspecting some of the burnt villages.
With all these happenings, the Nigerian military seems to so focused on the 3 north eastern states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa that the assailants in the middle belt are having a field day. This seems to be a case of someone trying to quench a fire not knowing the clothe he is putting on is already burning. With the spate and method of these attacks, one needs not to be told that these so called fulanis are affiliated to, and working with boko haram. The Nigerian armed forces should use their tongue to count their teeth. Prompt military intervention should be deployed to the these areas before the situation gets out of hand; and before it gets to a situation where the federal government may be forced to once again release the "hammer" on those states. This is simply Boko Haram strategizing and attacking in another form. The same enemy with a new face.

DELEGATES TO BE PAID ABOUT 12MILLION NAIRA TO CHAT A WAY FORWARD
The national confab convened by President Goodluck Jonathan, currently on going in the nation's federal capital territory has had some intriguing revelations despite the fact the fact that it is still at its early stage. It has so far been touted in the media that a "whooping" N4 million per month, amounting to N12m for the 3 months duration of the national conference, will be paid to each delegate across board.
With this outrageous amount, one begins to ask lots of questions. Do these delegates who are supposed citizens and representatives of their people need this huge amount to chat a new course for the sleeping gaint of Africa? Why do we always put the cart before the horse? In the midst of high rate of unemployment amongst our youth where some died few weeks back scrambling for NIS job test; our beloved Federal government still has millions to spill on people who are supposed to be patriots. Before the removal of the CBN governor, we were battling about missing monies up to tune of about $20 billion which is still not accounted for. There were long queues in filling stations across the country about a week ago which we are slowly recovering from and the government has been weeping that it has to totally remove subsidy due to heavy financial losses. Yet, with all these, and many more financial woes befalling the country at the moment, the federal government didn't bat an eyelid in allocating such a juicy amount of money for the confab.
Little wonders why majority of those in the conference seems to have been handpicked by the "powers that be" to represent their people. And why some ethnic nationalities seems to have been given a larger number of slots while some narrowly got one.
As the delegates collect these mouth watering bonuses, they should not forget that the future of this great nation lies on the outcome of this conference. A spirit of nationality and unity in diversity should be their watch word. Posterity awaits their decision.
